iPod Touch 1G and 2G Jailbreak (Mac)

Here in this tutorial, I will be explaining how to jailbreak an iPod Touch 1G (First one) or the iPod Touch 2G (Second one). Before you start, you will need the following tools and files.

iPod Firmware 3.0 Select either iPod Touch 1G 3.0 or iPod Touch 2G 3.0 and download accordingly.

redsn0w This is the jailbreaking tool you will be using.

Step One

Once those are all downloaded, you must determine if your iPod is already on the 3.0 software or not. You can find out by plugging in your iPod and checking in iTunes. If it’s already at 3.0 then skip the rest of this step and move onto step two. If your iPod isn’t on 3.0 yet, you must update to it for this jailbreak to work. To do so, hold the option button and press update. Doing this will allow you to choose which file you want to update with. Select the iPod Touch 1G or 2G firmware you downloaded earlier, and wait for it to finish then proceed to step two.

Step Two

Open up the redsn0w program and you should be greeted with a screen looking like this. Note: Your iPod should still be plugged in and iTunes should of automatically closed.

Once that screen shows up, you click the browse button and again search for the iPod Touch 1G or 2G firmware you downloaded earlier. If done correctly, your screen should look something like this, and click next to move on.

Step Three

Now you have to make sure that you’ve checked the box to install Cydia. As this is the program on your iPod to get all the goodies. Your screen should look similar to this.

Step Four

From here on just read the steps on redsn0w which should look something like this, and so on. Just follow the on-screen steps and you will have your iPod set into DFU Mode.

Step Five

Now your iPod should reboot itself, and you should be on a screen which looks like this.

Then it should start uploading some files onto your iPod to jailbreak it and should look like this.

After this is done you should get a done screen, and you can press the finish button. DO NOT UNPLUG YOUR IPOD LEAVE IT PLUGGED IN

Step Six

Now you should just see your iPod downloading files and then jailbreaking it etc. This process will take a few minutes so be patient, get a cup of coffee to drink or something.
